Here is the synopsis: In the Occupied West Bank of the 1980s, a Palestinian teenager is swept into a protest that changes the course of his family’s life. Reeling from its aftermath, his mother, Hanan, shares the story that led them to that fateful moment. Spanning seven decades, this epic drama traces the hopes and heartaches of one uprooted family, revealing not only the scars of displacement, but the unbreakable spirit of survival.
“All That’s Left of You isn’t political in its approach. Its deeply personal and profoundly intimate. A historical epic that chronicles the story of the land through the eyes of one family and three generations of struggle. A family portrait, examining the relationship between grandfather, father and son, and the legacy of trauma passed down to each.” It’s a drama with piercing moments of joy, love and humor that keep it from becoming too hard to watch,” commented director Cherien Dabis.
The Guardian review gave the film 4 of 5 stars, and called it ‘a deeply moving epic of Palestinian intergenerational trauma’ writing “There’s weighty, evocative pathos, but also a blunt sense of utility – film being used as an educational medium, dramatizing monumental tragedy for audiences perhaps not familiar, especially not cinematically…”
It continued, “But as the years go by and the trauma festers, the film grows into something thornier, surprising, beautifully textured and deeply moving.”
