Regina King, known for her Oscar-winning performance in If Beale Street Could Talk, has been named the Festival Ambassador of the 30th American Black Film Festival.

She has also starred in Boys N the Hood, Jerry Maguire, and Ray.

In 2020, King made history as the first black female director to debut a film at the 77th Annual Venice International Film Festival with One Night in Miami and garnered her a “Best Director – Motion Picture” Golden Globe nomination.

As Festival Ambassador for American Black Film Festival, King will welcome attendees on Opening Night and headline a featured “Creator Conversation with Regina King,” emphasizing the connection between her career and ABFF’s cultural legacy.

King’s relationship with the ABFF spans nearly three decades, beginning with her early participation in 1997 when the festival was then known as the Acapulco Black Film Festival.

“ABFF has championed countless artists and storytellers, growing into a powerful global platform,” said Regina King in a statement. “What Jeff and Nicole Friday have built over 30 years has made a lasting impact across our industry. Returning feels like a homecoming – a celebration of our creativity, resilience, and excellence. I’m truly honored to serve as Ambassador for this milestone year.”

“Regina has been part of the ABFF family since the very beginning,” said Nice Crowd CEO and Founder Jeff Friday and President Nicole Friday in a statement.  “From those early years in Acapulco to everything she’s achieved since, we’ve watched her journey with so much pride — cheering her on from up close and from afar. She represents everything this festival was created to celebrate — artistry, integrity, and excellence. Having her serve as our Festival Ambassador for our 30th year is truly a full-circle moment and a reflection of the mutual respect and admiration we’ve shared over the years.”

The 30th-anniversary edition of American Black Film Festival takes place May 27–31, 2026, in Miami Beach, Florida, under the theme “The Homecoming.”
