Alice Rohrwacher to Receive European Achievement in World Cinema Award at European Film Awards

Alice Rohrwacher will be honored with the European Achievement in World Cinema Award at the 38th European Film Awards for “her unusual and inspiring body of work.”

Considered one of contemporary cinema’s most distinctive voices world-wide, she made her feature debut in 2011 with Corpo Celeste, which premiered at Cannes Film Festival and was nominated for the Italian David di Donatello Awards.

She followed that up with The Wonders in 2014, a look at Gelsomina and her younger sisters in a German-Italian beekeeping family, and the challenges of a rural tv show. The film premiered in Cannes where it won the Grand Prize of the Jury.

Happy as Lazzaro in 2018 also premiered in competition in Cannes where it won Best Screenplay. The film was later nominated for the Italian David di Donatello Awards and for the European Film Awards where it won the European University Film Award.

Other films include Futura in 2021, a portrait of Italy seen through the eyes of teenagers.

La Chimera in 2023 stars Josh O’Connor, who was nominated for the European Film Awards, along with the director’s sister Alba Rohrwacher and Isabella Rossellini. It premiered in competition at Cannes Film Festival and was nominated for the Italian David di Donatello award, the Spanish Goya, and the Danish Robert, and won Emita Frigato European Production Designer at the European Film Awards.

Alice Rohrwacher’s latest short film, Le Pupille, was nominated for Best Live Action Short Film at the Oscars.

The award will also pays tribute to her longstanding collaboration with producer Carlo Cresto-Dina and his production company tempesta, which produced all of Alice Rohrwacher’s feature films. Alice Rohrwacher and tempesta will be guests at the 38th European Film Awards Ceremony on January 17, 2026
