‘Apocalypse in the Tropics’ Leads Nominations for 41st IDA Documentary Awards

Petra Costa’s Apocalypse in the Tropics leads the nominees for the 41st IDA Documentary Awards with 4 nominations for Best Feature Documentary, Best Director, Best Production and Best Writing.

Brittany Shyne’s Seeds, Tamara Kotevska’s The Tale of Silyan and Reid Davenport’s Life After followed with each receiving 3 nominations, including Best Feature Documentary and Best Director.

Also nominated for Best Feature Documentary is Songs of Slow Burning Earth by Olha Zhurba.

The 41st IDA Documentary Awards will be presented in the following categories on December 6, 2025: Best Feature Documentary, Best Short Documentary, Best Director, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, Best Original Music Score, Best Production, Best Sound Design, Best Writing, Best Curated Series, Best Episodic Series, Best Music Documentary, and David L. Wolper Student Documentary Award. Winners in two special categories, the ABC News VideoSource Award and the Pare Lorentz Award, will also be announced on December 6, 2025.

At this year’s ceremony, documentary producer Julie Goldman will receive the Career Achievement Award; Brittany Shyne (Seeds) will receive the Emerging Filmmaker Award; and Impact Partners will be presented with the Pioneer Award.
