Neon is taking Jafar Panahi’s It Was Just an Accident on a six-city tour across the United States, with stops at arthouse cinemas in New York, Los Angeles, Boston, Chicago, San Francisco, and Seattle.

During the tour, Panahi will create a short film about his travels, set for release early next year.

Written and directed by Panahi, It Was Just an Accident follows Vahid, an unassuming mechanic, who is suddenly reminded of his time in an Iranian prison when he has a chance encounter with Eghbal, a man he strongly suspects to be his sadistic jailhouse captor. Panicked, Vahid gathers several former prisoners, all abused by that same captor, to try and confirm Eghbal’s identity.

It Was Just an Accident premiered at Cannes Film Festival where it won the Palme d’Or; and was selected as France’s official entry to the 98th Academy Awards. The film is also nominated for Best International Film, Best Director, and Best Original Screenplay at the Gotham Awards. Additional nominations include Best International Film at the British Independent Film Awards and Best Film and Best Director at the Asia Pacific Screen Awards.
