Daisy Ridley stars in the zombie thriller film We Bury the Dead as a woman whose search for a loved one leads her to uncover an unsettling truth behind a mysterious outbreak.
Also starring in the film are Mark Coles Smith and Brenton Thwaites.
Directed by Zak Hilditch, We Bury the Dead made its world premiere at the SXSW Film & TV Festival; and is set to open in select U.S. theaters on January 2, 2026.
Here’s the synopsis: After a secretive military test goes disastrously wrong, the dead begin returning in forms far more aggressive than officials admit. Ava, desperate to find her missing husband, signs on with a corpse-recovery team heading into a sealed-off zone. Once inside, she discovers a far darker reality behind the outbreak and what these revived bodies have become.
Ridley in an interview said, “Every person looking for bodies is hoping that they’re going to find someone they love, and they’re either going to find them alive or they’re going to find them as a zombie.”
Variety review wrote, “We Bury the Dead wrestles with how much it wants to be a zombie movie. It’s at its most interesting and exciting when it approaches the well-worn subgenre with brand-new spins, resulting in haunting scenes that open a cinematic window into the darkest, most mysterious parts of the human condition.”
