CNN will open 2026 with I’m Chevy Chase and You’re Not, a new feature documentary that examines the complicated life and career of one of Hollywood’s most polarizing comedic figures.
Directed by two-time Emmy winner Marina Zenovich, the film premieres Thursday, January 1 at 8 p.m. ET on CNN, with streaming available the following day for CNN subscribers.
I’m Chevy Chase and You’re Not charts Chevy Chase’s rise from breakout Saturday Night Live phenomenon to box-office royalty, thoughtfully examining the complexities and challenges that have shaped his legacy.

With biting wit and disarming candor, Zenovich unpacks how the man once crowned America’s comedy golden boy became its favorite cautionary tale. At its heart, I’m Chevy Chase and You’re Not is the story of a performer with outsized gifts, who could make a nation laugh – but who could not always outrun his own contradictions – and whose films still circulate in the zeitgeist, quoted and rediscovered by new generations.
The documentary includes interviews with longtime collaborators and friends, Dan Aykroyd, Beverly D’Angelo, Goldie Hawn, Lorne Michaels, Ryan Reynolds, and Martin Short, alongside Chase and his family. Rare home videos, archival clips, and newly filmed moments show Chase at his most unvarnished, creating a portrait that spans decades of creativity and controversy.
“I’ve always loved a challenge, and Chevy certainly offered one. I wanted to understand the real person behind the guarded, conflicted man we’ve often seen on camera,” said Zenovich. “Beneath the bravado, I found someone deeply human, with layers of humor and emotion that make him far more complex than his public persona may suggest.”
