The HBO documentary Paul Anka: His Way chronicles the seven-decade career of one of pop music’s most enduring figures, charting how Paul Anka evolved from teen idol to genre-spanning songwriter with a global footprint.
Directed and produced by Emmy-winning filmmaker John Maggio, the feature-length documentary premieres Monday, December 1, from 9:00 to 10:40 p.m. ET/PT on HBO and will stream on HBO Max.

From teen idol to chart-topping songwriter, Paul Anka has spent seven decades as one of the most prolific musicians in the world and he’s still going. Part road movie and part living biography, Paul Anka: His Way traces the iconic Canadian’s journey through stardom and constant reinvention in an ever-changing industry.
Through extensive archival footage, the documentary highlights performances of Anka’s songs by artists across eras and genres, including Buddy Holly, Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, Aretha Franklin, and Nina Simone.
“There was no assurance that I was going to be around forever,” Anka says in the trailer. “That’s part of the reason I leapt in to writing for the people.”
