GLAAD today revealed the nominees of the 37th GLAAD Media Awards, honoring films including Hedda, Blue Moon, Sorry, Baby, and Kiss of the Spider Woman.
The awards spotlights 291 nominees across 32 categories, “honoring outstanding fair, accurate, and inclusive representations of LGBTQ people and issues” in film, television, gaming, music, podcasting, journalism, Spanish-Language media, and more.
Nominated for Outstanding Film – Wide Theatrical Release are Blue Moon, Christy, Clown in a Cornfield, Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale, The History of Sound, I Know What You Did Last Summer, Kiss of the Spider Woman, On Swift Horses, Twinless, and The Wedding Banquet.
Nominated for Outstanding Film – Limited Theatrical Release are Cactus Pears, Fairyland, Griffin in Summer, I Wish You All the Best, A Nice Indian Boy, Plainclothes, Ponyboi, The Queen of My Dreams, Sorry, Baby, and Young Hearts.
Nominated for Outstanding Documentary are Amy Bradley is Missing, Come See Me in the Good Light, Enigma, Heightened Scrutiny, I’m Your Venus, In Transit, Love & Rage: Munroe Bergdorf, A Mother Apart, Pee-Wee as Himself, and Sally.
“The most popular series and media appear on this year’s list of nominees because LGBTQ stories are a winning strategy for a global audience who demands bold and original storytelling. As the media landscape shifts, gaming, local news, and podcasts have also emerged as proud homes to LGBTQ talent and narratives,” said GLAAD President & CEO, Sarah Kate Ellis. “In the face of rising anti-LGBTQ disinformation, GLAAD remains relentless in our mission to work across all forms of media and to tell the fair and accurate stories that protect values of family, fairness, and freedom for all.”
GLAAD has also awarded the Special Recognition honor to Andry José Hernández Romero, “Before We Forget” (Twenty Nine Palms Ent.), “The Drowsy Chaperone in Concert” (Breaking the Binary Theatre), and “Gaydar with Anania.”
The 37th GLAAD Media Awards ceremony will be held in Los Angeles on Thursday, March 5.
