Here is the official trailer for K-Pops!, the feature directorial debut from Grammy Award-winning artist Anderson .Paak. The musical comedy stars .Paak as BJ, a washed-up American musician who embarks on an unexpected journey across continents and cultures in pursuit of a second chance at stardom and a chance to reconnect with family.
Sharing the screen with him are Jee Young Han, Jonnie “Dumbfoundead” Park, Yvette Nicole Brown, Kevin Woo, and .Paak’s real-life teen son Soul Rasheed, portraying his onscreen son. K-Pops! showcases a rare fusion of Black and Korean music cultures and marks a creative milestone for .Paak as both filmmaker and lead actor.
The film premiered as a Special Presentation at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival and made its U.S. premiere at the 2025 Tribeca Film Festival. It is now set for a wide theatrical release in the United States on February 27, 2026, exclusively at AMC theaters, via Aura Entertainment.

K-Pops! centers on BJ, a down-on-his-luck musician portrayed by .Paak, who stumbles into a surprising opportunity to revive his career by joining the house band of a K-pop music competition show in Seoul. While immersed in the fast-paced world of idol culture and electrifying musical performances, BJ discovers that one of the contestants — Tae Young, played by Anderson .Paak’s real-life son Soul Rasheed — is his long-lost child from a past relationship. What begins as a professional gig soon evolves into a deeply personal journey of fatherhood, cultural identity, and a shared passion for music.
Reflecting on the deeply personal roots of the project, Anderson .Paak shared that K-Pops! grew out of his own experiences during the COVID-19 lockdown, when he began creating YouTube skits with his son that brought them closer together and inspired the film’s narrative. .Paak explained that this period of bonding, and his own exploration of his Korean heritage alongside his son shaped the story’s emotional core, making the film both a celebration of family and an exploration of cultural identity.
Early reviews from media sources highlight K-Pops! as a joyful and engaging film that bridges cultural divides through music and humor. In a review for Collider, critics praised the energetic dance sequences and the heartfelt chemistry between .Paak and Soul Rasheed, noting that their real-life bond enhances the emotional impact of their onscreen relationship. The review described K-Pops! as a “bundle of joy that rarely misses a beat,” with lively performances and vibrant musical moments that entertain while exploring deeper themes of connection and self-discovery.
