The crime-tinged drama film Tuner stars Leo Woodall as Niki White, a piano tuner whose exceptional sensitivity to sound leads him into the dangerous world of safe-cracking. Alongside Woodall, Academy Award winner Dustin Hoffman plays Niki’s mentor Harry Horowitz, with Havana Rose Liu, Jean Reno, Lior Raz, and Tovah Feldshuh rounding out the ensemble cast.
Directed and co-written by Daniel Roher, Tuner has already made waves on the international film festival circuit, debuting at the 52nd Telluride Film Festival, followed by the Toronto International Film Festival. Black Bear Pictures has scheduled Tuner for a limited U.S. release on May 22, 2026, followed by a wider expansion on May 29, 2026.

Here is the official synopsis of Tuner: A talented piano tuner’s meticulous skills for tuning pianos lead him to discover an unexpected aptitude for cracking safes, turning his life upside down. Directed by Daniel Roher from a screenplay he co-wrote with Robert Ramsey, the film traces Niki White’s journey from quiet craftsmanship to perilous criminal enterprise, exploring how an uncommon gift can become both blessing and burden.
In a review from InSession Film covering the film’s appearance at TIFF 2025, critic Alex Papaioannou praised the movie’s rhythmic pacing and emotional depth, writing that the narrative “sings as a particularly compelling drama.” He added, “Tuner stands out as a deeply exciting film because of the crime elements permeating through its DNA. The third act plays out like a full-blown crime thriller, but complementing the budding romance of the second act has Niki discovering an additional function his sensitive hearing serves him: he’s a damn good safe cracker.”
