Here is the official synopsis of Rose of Nevada: Three decades ago, the Rose of Nevada vanished at sea, along with its crew. Now, it has returned. In a remote fishing village, its reappearance is embraced as an auspicious sign, with the local citizens convinced the luck of their economically devastated community may turn, if only the ship sails again. Joining the crew is Nick (George MacKay), desperate to provide for his young family, and Liam (Callum Turner), a mysterious drifter eager to escape his past. After a successful voyage, they return to harbor, only to find that nothing is as they remember it.

Director Mark Jenkin has spoken about his emotional engagement with Rose of Nevada, saying, “I felt anxious when the film started. Then, during the storm sequence, I realised that I was feeling anxious for the characters on the screen, not for myself anymore, which I thought was a good thing; my suspension of disbelief had actually allowed me to get lost in the film. Then there was the standing ovation afterwards. I’ve never had that before.”

In its Venice Film Festival review, AwardsWatch praised Rose of Nevada, writing, “Jenkin resists convention in both storytelling and craft, refusing easy answers, what lingers by the end is not its oddities but its humanity. Beneath the mystery lies a story about loss, longing, and the threads that bind people to one another.”
