Santa Barbara Film Festival Winners -‘Steal This Story, Please’ Wins Audience Choice Award

Tia Lessin and Carl Deal’s Steal This Story, Please, a documentary on the life and career of independent investigative journalist Amy Goodman and her work on the news program Democracy Now!, took the Audience Choice Award at the 41st Santa Barbara International Film Festival.

The film also won the Social Justice Award sponsored by the Fund for Santa Barbara.

Other prizes including Panavision Spirit Award for Independent Cinema went to Nicola Rinciari’s A Mosquito in the Ear, Laura Wandel’s Adam’s Sake won Best International Feature Film, Gaslit by Katie Camosy won Best Documentary Award, and Versailles by Andrés Clariond Rangel won the Nueva Vision Award for Spain/Latin America Cinema.

“We are thrilled to celebrate such a wonderful array of winning films that represent the best independent creatives working today,” said Claudia Puig, SBIFF programming director. “All these outstanding films tell essential stories that speak eloquently about the human condition.
