‘The AI Doc: Or How I Became an Apocaloptimist’ Trailer – Documentary Investigates Future of Artificial Intelligence

The AI Doc: Or How I Became an Apocaloptimist is a new documentary directed by Daniel Roher and Charlie Tyrell that takes a deep look at the future of artificial intelligence.

This film follows Roher himself, the Academy Award-winning filmmaker behind Navalny, as he prepares to become a father and confront the existential implications of artificial intelligence and its rapid evolution. With producers including Everything Everywhere All at Once’s Daniel Kwan and Jonathan Wang alongside Shane Boris, Diane Becker, and Ted Tremper, the documentary promises both emotional depth and sweeping intellectual scope as it grapples with one of the defining technological issues of our age.

The AI Doc: Or How I Became an Apocaloptimist made its world premiere in the Premieres section of the 2026 Sundance Film Festival and is scheduled for theatrical release in the United States on March 27, 2026, via Focus Features

Here is the official synopsis of The AI Doc: Or How I Became an Apocaloptimist: From the Academy Award-winning filmmakers behind Everything Everywhere All at Once and Navalny; a father-to-be tries to figure out what is happening with all this AI insanity. The AI Doc: Or How I Became an Apocaloptimist is a hand-made, eye-opening documentary about the most powerful technology humanity has ever created… and what’s at stake if we get it wrong.

In a review from RogerEbert.com, critic Brian Tallerico praised The AI Doc for raising awareness and stimulating discussion rather than offering conclusive answers. The review, however, notes, “There are also times in “The A.I. Doc” in which the totality of the subject overwhelms the filmmaking. The horrifying stories of how A.I. can be used to “nudify” people or even teach someone how to kill themselves get a bit of time, but too little compared to the rest of the project.”
