Magnolia Pictures shared the official trailer for Normal, director Ben Wheatley’s crime thriller starring Bob Odenkirk, Henry Winkler, and Lena Headey.
Written by Derek Kolstad, the screenwriter best known for the John Wick franchise, from a story by Kolstad and Odenkirk, Normal follows a temporarily appointed sheriff whose attempt at a quiet assignment in a seemingly peaceful Minnesota town quickly spirals into a chaotic and violent mystery.
Wheatley, whose filmography includes Kill List, Free Fire, and Meg 2: The Trench, brings his signature blend of visceral action and dark humor to this adrenaline-fueled story, while Odenkirk leads the cast as Sheriff Ulysses, a man confronting hidden conspiracy and corruption that threatens to consume everything he thought he’d left behind.
Normal made its world premiere at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival in the Midnight Madness program, and is set for a theatrical release in the United States on April 17, 2026, via Magnolia Pictures.
The latest collaboration between Bob Odenkirk, John Wick creator Derek Kolstad, and Nobody producer Marc Provissiero, director Ben Wheatley’s kinetic neo-Western stars Odenkirk as an unassuming substitute sheriff with a troubled past who, after moving to a small, sleepy town, responds to a bank robbery and unknowingly uncovers something far more explosive.
For Sheriff Ulysses (Odenkirk), his provisional posting to the quaint Midwestern American town of Normal was meant to be a welcome respite from both his marital woes and recent moral injuries in the line of duty. But when a botched bank robbery interrupts the municipality’s tranquil pace, a dark secret is inadvertently exposed, and Ulysses soon discovers that the town is anything but its namesake.
Critical response from festival screenings has been positive, highlighting Odenkirk’s compelling lead performance and Wheatley’s kinetic direction. Deadline’s review from TIFF noted that “Odenkirk rules this roost just as he does in the Nobody movies, but with the firepower Wheatley keeps shooting, Normal manages to exceed those action levels if you can believe it.”
