A24 debuted the official trailer for Marc by Sofia, director Sofia Coppola’s documentary on her longtime friend and fashion legend Marc Jacobs
In her first feature-length documentary, Coppola, known for her singular voice in narrative cinema with films like Lost in Translation and Marie Antoinette, turns her lens to Jacobs, capturing rare behind-the-scenes moments from his creative world.
Rather than a conventional biography, the film weaves together archival material and fly-on-the-wall footage of Jacobs as he prepares his Spring 2024 fashion show, providing an unguarded look at his creative process, friendships, and influence on fashion. The trailer highlights both Jacobs’ iconic designs and the personal rapport between director and subject, setting the stage for a documentary that’s as stylish as it is personal.
Marc by Sofia had its world premiere out of competition at the 82nd Venice International Film Festival, and is now set a U.S. theatrical rollout beginning in New York on March 20, 2026, with a nationwide release on March 27, 2026, via A24.

Director Sofia Coppola has spoken about the intimacy and personal nature of Marc by Sofia in interviews, saying, “It was really a sincere, small project. It was really important for me to show Mark as a creative person in his process, and I was happy that he felt comfortable around me.” Coppola added, “I think it’s always important for me to show something genuine, show the person that I love and their real side.”
In a review for Variety, the film is described as a “slight, sparkly doc” built around the unveiling of Marc Jacobs’ Spring 2024 collection, adding, “By no means a major work, “Marc by Sofia” might not leave either its director or subject with a similar sensation, but it’s a breezy, mutually affectionate collaboration just the same.”
