51st César Awards – ‘The Ties That Bind Us’ Wins Best Film, Richard Linklater Nabs Best Director

The Ties That Bind Us directed by Carine Tardieu

Carine Tardieu’s The Ties That Bind Us (L’Attachement) won Best Film at the 51st César Awards, along with Best Supporting Actress for Vimala Pons and Best Adaptation.

Adapted from Alice Ferney’s novel L’Intimité, the drama stars Valeria Bruni Tedeschi as a fiercely independent woman with no interest in motherhood who forms an unexpected bond with a young father played by Pio Marmaï, and his two children following the death of his wife.

Richard Linklater won the award for Best Director for Nouvelle Vague, along with Best Cinematography, Best Editing, and Best Costume Design.

Other performance awards, including Best Actress, went to Léa Drucker for Case 137 (Dossier 137), Laurent Lafitte won Best Actor for The Richest Woman In The World (La Femme la plus riche du monde), and Best Supporting Actor went to Pierre Lottin for The Stranger (L’Étranger)

Top film awards went to Arco by Ugo Bienvenu for Best Animated Film, Best Documentary went to Whispers in the Woods (Le Chant des forêts) by Vincent Munier, Best Debut Film went to Nino by Pauline Loquès, and Best Foreign Film went to A Battle After Another by Paul Thomas Anderson.

Also at the ceremony, Jim Carrey was presented with an Honorary César.
