Music, rivalry, and humor collide in Power Ballad, the new musical comedy film starring Paul Rudd as a wedding singer past his prime, and Nick Jonas as a fading boy band star whose chance encounter sparks both friendship and conflict.
Also starring in the movie are Jack Reynor, Havana Rose Liu, Marcella Plunkett, and Peter McDonald.
From acclaimed filmmaker John Carney, known for music-driven crowd-pleasers such as Once and Sing Street, Power Ballad held its world premiere as the closing night gala selection at the Dublin International Film Festival.
After its debut in Dublin, the film will make its North American premiere at the South by Southwest Film & TV Festival in Austin, before being released in theaters beginning June 5, 2026, via Lionsgate.
When Rick (Paul Rudd), a past-his-prime wedding singer, meets fading boy-band star Danny (Nick Jonas) during a gig, the two bond over music and a late-night jam session. But when Danny turns one of Rick’s songs into the hit that reignites his career, Rick sets out to reclaim the recognition he believes he deserves – even if it means risking everything he cares about. From writer-director John Carney (Sing Street, Once), Power Ballad is a feel-good story about music, self-respect, friendship, and the price of ambition.
