The eerie atmosphere of Irish folk horror takes center stage in Hokum, the latest supernatural thriller from filmmaker Damian McCarthy.
The film stars Adam Scott, alongside Peter Coonan, David Wilmot, Florence Ordesh, Will O’Connell, and Austin Amelio.
Set in a remote Irish town, the story follows an American novelist whose visit to an isolated inn quickly turns into a nightmare as he becomes entangled in dark legends surrounding a mysterious witch said to haunt the property.
Hokum will make its world premiere at the 2026 SXSW Film Festival, before opening in theaters on May 1, 2026, via Neon.

The film follows reclusive novelist Ohm Bauman, who travels to a remote Irish inn to scatter his parents’ ashes. While staying there, he learns about disturbing local stories claiming that an ancient witch haunts the inn’s honeymoon suite. As the eerie tales begin to consume his thoughts, Bauman experiences increasingly disturbing visions. When a shocking disappearance occurs, he finds himself pulled into a terrifying confrontation with forces tied to the inn’s dark past and the deepest corners of his own psyche.
