‘The Furious’ Trailer – Kenji Tanigaki’s High-Octane Martial Arts Thriller Delivers Non-Stop Action

Marking one of his most ambitious directorial efforts, The Furious, the high-octane martial arts thriller from Kenji Tanigaki, follows an ordinary man thrust into extraordinary violence after his daughter is abducted by a human trafficking ring.

Featuring an ensemble cast that includes Mo Tse, Joe Taslim, Jeeja Yanin, and Yayan Ruhian, the film blends emotional stakes with expertly choreographed combat.

Known for his work as a stunt coordinator and action director, Tanigaki brings decades of experience to a story that pairs brutal, grounded fight sequences with a father’s desperate mission.

The Furious made its world premiere at the 50th Toronto International Film Festival, debuting in the Midnight Madness section, and then went on to screen at the Sitges Film Festival, Busan International Film Festival, and Beyond Fest in Los Angeles. It opens in theaters on May 29, 2026, via Lionsgate.

Here is the synopsis: After the daughter of Wang Wei (Xie Miao) is kidnapped by a criminal network and he receives no help from the corrupt police, Wei sets out on a rampage to find her himself. His only ally is Navin (Joe Taslim) – a relentless journalist whose wife has mysteriously disappeared. Fueled by a furious vengeance, the unlikely duo ruthlessly fights against the kidnappers in this explosive martial arts showdown.

In its TIFF coverage, Cinema Escapist praised the film’s action, describing the choreography is “a propulsive blend of grappling and hand-to-hand combat.” The review noted, “The plot may sound cliché, but make no mistake – this hard-hitting action film is packed with crazy martial arts action and stunts, reminiscent of the Golden Age of Hong Kong action films.”
