‘Wild Horse Nine’ Trailer – John Malkovich and Sam Rockwell Star in Martin McDonagh’s Spy Drama

Set against the volatile backdrop of 1970s Chile, Wild Horse Nine, the latest film from acclaimed writer-director Martin McDonagh, is a darkly comic tale of espionage and loyalty.

The film stars John Malkovich and Sam Rockwell as two CIA operatives navigating a covert mission that spirals into something far more personal and unpredictable.

Also starring in the movie are Steve Buscemi, Parker Posey, Tom Waits, and Mariana di Girolamo.

Distributed by Searchlight Pictures, the film is scheduled to open in U.S. theaters on November 6, 2026, signaling a potential awards season contender given McDonagh’s track record with films such as Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri and The Banshees of Inisherin.

Here is the synopsis: Shortly before the 1973 Chilean coup, CIA agents Chris (John Malkovich) and Lee (Sam Rockwell) are dispatched from Santiago to Easter Island by their bureau chief, MJ (Steve Buscemi). Amongst the Island’s iconic statues, and as the longtime partners wrestle with their dark pasts and present conspiracies, Chris’s newfound bond with a pair of rebellious students (Mariana di Girolamo and Ailín Salas) threatens to send everyone’s trip to this remote paradise sideways.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, McDonagh has spoken about the thematic core of the film, and its timeliness, saying, “I watched it with a small group of friends about a month or two ago, and it feels very of right now, sadly,.” He added, “A lot of the things it’s talking about we’re dealing with in the present day.”
