Magic Hour made its world premiere at the 2025 South by Southwest Film Festival, then went on to screen at the San Francisco Jewish Film Festival and the Heartland International Film Festival. It is scheduled for a U.S. theatrical release on May 15, 2026, via Greenwich Entertainment.

Described as an intimate drama with a magical realist twist, Daveed Diggs (Hamilton and Blindspotting) and Katie Aselton (The League) play a couple who escape to the desert to navigate an unexpected and challenging new phase of their relationship. The film is written by real-life couple Mark Duplass (Cyrus and Creep) and Katie Aselton.

In its SXSW review, The Playlist described the film as “a comforting tale about moving on,” praising the chemistry between Katie Aselton and Daveed Diggs while noting how the film draws viewers into its understated emotional world. The review notes, “With Magic Hour, Aselton and Duplass have again given us something uniquely special, a film one could easily overlook. However, hardly a moment needs to pass before it becomes impossible to happily dive into this brief glimpse into the world of Erin [and] Charlie.”
