Endless yellow corridors, flickering fluorescent lights, and the creeping sense that you were never meant to be there define Backrooms, the horror film taking a chilling leap from internet folklore to the big screen.
Directed by Kane Parsons, the film expands his viral analog horror universe into a full-scale feature, blending psychological dread with sci-fi terror.
Starring in the film are Chiwetel Ejiofor, Renate Reinsve, and Mark Duplass.
Fueled by Parsons’ original viral series and the backing of A24, Backrooms is now scheduled for a wide theatrical release across the United States on May 29, 2026.

According to the official synopsis, “A strange doorway appears in the basement of a furniture showroom.” Not to give too much away – in the film, a therapist ventures into an otherworldly dimension in search of her missing patient, entering a labyrinthine reality that defies logic and safety.
Parsons’ transition from YouTube creator to feature filmmaker has been closely watched, with actor Renate Reinsve reflecting on working with him, saying, “He was so impressive.” She added, “He turned 20 during the shoot. He was very sure of what he wanted, and I love that he hasn’t really watched that many movies. His references are totally different, so it was very exciting to work with someone who had just these ideas.”
