Kangdrun’s Linka Linka and Markus Schleinzer’s Rose have won the top prizes, the Firebird Awards in the Young Cinema Competition at the 50th Hong Kong International Film Festival.
Linka Linka was named Best Film in the Young Cinema Competition (Chinese Language), with director Kangdrun accepting the award from actress Juliette Binoche. Linka Linka also won FIPRESCI Prize jury prize.
In the Young Cinema Competition, Tan Si You took home the Best Director kudo with Amoeba, and Yu An-Shun from A Dance with Rainbows, and Ong Xuan Jing from Ah Girl received the Best Actor and Best Actress awards respectively.
In the Young Cinema Competition (World) category, Rose by director Markus Schleinzer was chosen as the Firebird Award winner. Andrius Blaževičius won the Best Director award with How to Divorce During the War, and Edik Beddoes and Sabine Thalau won the Best Actor and Best Actress awards for their distinguished performances in Blue Heron and I Understand Your Displeasure, respectively.
In the Documentary Competition, the jury awarded the Firebird Award to Past Future Continuous, co-directed by Morteza Ahmadvand and Firouzeh Khosrovani, and The Ground Beneath Our Feet by Yrsa Roca Fannberg took the Jury Prize for .
French director Jocelyn Charles’ God is Shy received the Firebird Award in the Short Film Competition, with the Jury Prize going to Robert and June (and all the time in the world) directed by American filmmaker Jem Cohen.
