
The 39th edition of Santa Barbara International Film will run February 7 to 17, 2024 showcasing 45 world premieres and 77 U.S. premieres from 48 countries.

Berlin International Film Festival today confirmed another twelve titles in the Berlinale Special along with 20 short films in the Berlinale Shorts competition. This year’s Berlinale Classics presents ten films in digitally-restored versions and will celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Japanese monster movie classic Gojira (Godzilla), and the return of Golden Bear winner Deprisa, deprisa to the big screen.

12.12: The Day and Evil Does Not Exist lead the nominations for the 17th Asian Film Awards (AFA) celebrating excellence in Asian cinema. Based on the real-life “12.12 Military Insurrection” of 1979 in South Korea, the political drama 12.12: The Day follows the intense struggles of military personnel during the mutiny. The film was nominated for Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, Best Editing, and Best Cinematography. Also receiving six nominations is the film Evil Does Not Exist by Japanese director Hamaguchi Ryusuke whose earlier work Drive My Car won Best Film at the 16th Asian Film Awards. It is nominated for Best Film, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Editing, Best Cinematography and Best Original Music.

The 8th MidWest WeirdFest film festival taking place March 1-3, 2024 at the Micon Downtown Cinema in Eau Claire, Wisconsin announced its first programming wave of “all things fantastic, frightening, paranormal, and just plain weird.”

The 21st annual Big Sky Documentary Film Festival returns February 16-25, 2024 in Missoula, Montana featuring over 150 nonfiction films, and a virtual program streaming online February 19-29.
