Comedian/Actress/Producer Amanda Seales will guest host the upcoming Mr. SOUL! Premiere Kickback – a special online talkback celebrating the opening weekend of the award winning documentary film – Mr. SOUL! – directed by Melissa Haizlip and the nation’s March on Washington weekend.
The 12th annual edition Hola México Film Festival, billed as the largest Mexican film festival outside of Mexico, will make its virtual debut September 11-20 exclusively via the Spanish-language premium streaming service PANTAYA.
IFC Films will release David Bowie glam-rock, road-trip film Stardust, starring award-winning actor and musician Johnny Flynn (EMMA.) as the legendary music icon, with comedian, podcaster, and actor Marc Maron (Glow, Sword of Trust) and indie starlet Jena Malone (Antebellum) as Bowie’s wife Angie. The film is directed by Gabriel Range and co-written with Christopher Bell.
IFC Films will release the deeply personal and intergenerational immigrant story, Farewell Amor, written and directed by breakout director and Sundance Institute fellow, Ekwa Msangi. The film marks Msangi’s feature directorial debut, and stars Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine, Zainab Jah, Jayme Lawson, Joie Lee, Marcus Scribner, and Nana Mensah.
The European Film Academy and EFA Productions announced the EFA Documentary Selection, a list of 13 European documentaries recommended for a nomination for this year’s European Film Awards. There are 14 European countries represented in this year’s EFA Documentary Selection.
The American Film Institute (AFI) and Universal Pictures announced the launch of a week-long AFI Movie Club event called “Black Stories Matter,” spotlighting diverse and unique narratives from celebrated Black films. Born from a recent AFI/Universal collaboration honoring Do the Right Thing and Academy Award®-winning director Spike Lee, the expanded partnership will pay tribute to notable films BlacKkKlansman, Get Out, Girls Trip, Loving and Straight Outta Compton with free digital movie rentals available all week. The 68th edition of the San Sebastian Festival will host the world premiere of Luca Guadagnino’s We Are Who We Are in the Official Selection, as part of its special screenings. The television series explores friendship, first love and identity through two adolescents living on an American military base in Italy.
