The filmmakers will each receive a $200,000 finishing grant to help with final production and distribution.
Tár, Todd Field’s drama starring Cate Blanchett as the fictional renowned musician Lydia Tár, won the Overall Audience Favorite award at the 45th Mill Valley Film Festival. Other audience awards went to The Whale for Audience Favorite | US Cinema; Our Father, The Devil for Audience Favorite | US Indie; The Banshees of Inisherin for Audience Favorite | World Cinema; Close for Audience Favorite | World Cinema (foreign language); and The Grab for Audience Favorite | Documentary.

Hidden Letters from director Violet Du Feng and co-director Qing Zhao won the $20,000 Documentary Feature Grand Prize at the 31st Heartland International Film Festival (HIFF), with the other top prizes going to Our Father, the Devil from director Ellie Foumbi for the $20,000 Narrative Feature Grand Prize, and Wildcat from directors Melissa Lesh and Trevor Frost took the $5,000 Jimmy Stewart Legacy Award.
Fire of Love leads the nominations for the 7th Annual Critics Choice Documentary Awards (CCDA) with seven nods, including for Best Documentary Feature, Sara Dosa for Best Director, Best Editing, Best Score, Best Narration, Best Archival Documentary, and Best Science/Nature Documentary.

Close directed by Lukas Dhont won Best Narrative Feature and Pray For Us Sinners, directed by Sinéad O’Shea, won Best Documentary Feature at this year’s 30th anniversary edition of the Hamptons International Film Festival.
The International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA) 2022 unveiled the selections for Luminous and Frontlight, two premiere-only cornerstones of the program, in addition to the lineups for live cinema section IDFA on Stage and experimental section Paradocs. The 35th edition of IDFA takes place in person from November 9 to 20, 2022.

Kino Lorber acquired indie filmmaker Rob Nilsson’s Faultline, in addition to his near complete filmography including his 1979 masterpiece Northern Lights, co-directed with John Hanson. Faultline made its World Premiere at the Mill Valley Film Festival, and will receive a theatrical and digital release from Kino Lorber in 2023.
