FULL CIRCLE won the Award for Best New York Feature Film at New York International Film FestivalThe Vietnamese documentary film “THE TALE OF AN PHUC HOUSE” directed by Ivan Tankushev won the Award for Best feature Documentary Film at the 2013 New York City International Film Festival (NYCIFF). “THE TALE OF AN PHUC HOUSE” follows the everyday lives of twenty disabled children – third generation victims of the Agent Orange warfare that occurred during the Vietnam War ( 1963-1973). JIHAD IN AMERICA: THE GRAND DECEPTION, a 70-minute documentary film exploring the Muslim Brotherhood in America, and directed by Investigative Project on Terrorism Executive Director Steven Emerson won an honorary award.
FULL CIRCLE won the Award for Best New York Feature Film, SPENCER won the Award for Best U.S.A. Feature Film and the South African film, LITTLE ONE won the Award for Best International Feature Film. FULL CIRCLE directed by Olli Koivula and Solvan Naim is about a young pizza delivery boy, Anthoni, who faces a life-changing crisis when his curiosity pulls him away from his delivery order into an adjacent apartment’s open door. SPENCER, written by, starring, and directed by Geoff Lerer, follows the travails of Spencer Berg, an aspiring filmmaker trying to make his first movie in Brooklyn. LITTLE ONE directed by Darrell Roodt and South Africa’s entry for the Best Foreign Language Oscar at the 85th Academy Awards, is the story about a six-year-old girl found left for dead outside a township in Johannesburg.

TaorminaFilmFest Pays Tribute to James Gandolfini

TaorminaFilmFest released a statement today on behalf of actor James Gandolfini, who died of a heart attack yesteday in Italy. Gandolfini was in Italy to attend the 59th TaorminaFilmFest. In a statement on it’s website, the festival said that Gandolfini had been confirmed to attend the TaorminaFilmFest on June 22 to preside over a TaoClass that the festival dedicated to what it calls “the great interpreters of film and television” and to receive the Taormina City Prize.
Mario Sesti editorial director of Taormina FilmFest and Tiziana Rocca general manager said they had spoken to the actor just a few hours before his death, and that he was very happy to receive the award and visit Italy. “He was the American actor that better than anyone else has been able to interpret the Italian-American with his personality full of contrasts, ambition, pain, humor. He was the face representative of the golden age of television, but also an actor of memorable cinema. We are organizing in this time a tribute that the Taormina FilmFest will dedicate to his career and talent.”
The TaorminaFilmFest continues through Saturday, June 22, 2013 in Taormina, Italy.

ONLY GOD FORGIVESONLY GOD FORGIVES, directed by Nicolas Winding Refn won the Sydney Film Festival‘s prestigious Sydney Film Prize. Starring Ryan Gosling, Kristin Scott Thomas and Vithaya Pansringarm, ONLY GOD FORGIVES is described as a brutal and stylish story of betrayal, rage and redemption set in the Thai underworld. This is the second time Danish director Nicolas Winding Refn has won the Sydney Prize, previously winning it in 2009 with the British prison thriller Bronson.
“I am very honoured and extremely excited to have received this honorable award from a country that in my opinion has one of the great film histories of the world,” said Nicolas Winding Refn.
BUCKSKIN directed by Dylan McDonaldThe FOXTEL Australian Documentary Prize was awarded to BUCKSKIN, directed by Dylan McDonald. The film documents the work of Adelaide resident Jack Buckskin, who is on a mission to renew a once-extinct language and to inspire a new generation to connect with the land and culture of his ancestors.
The Foxtel jury also gave a special mention to MISS NIKKI AND THE TIGER GIRLS, directed by Juliet Lamont, and highly commended Steven McGregor’s BIG NAME NO BLANKET.

THE TALE OF AN PHUC HOUSE[/caption]The documentary film “THE TALE OF AN PHUC HOUSE” which follows the everyday lives of twenty disabled children – third generation victims of the Agent Orange warfare that occurred during the Vietnam War ( 1963-1973), has its World Premiere at the 2013 New York City International Film Festival (NYCIFF) where it is nominated for NYCIFF’s Best Feature Documentary Film.
Directed by Ivan Tankushev, known for his work in animation on shows such as Arthur and Family Guy, the film is described as an objective video tale about the simple life of twenty exceptional young adults – living in a small house near Saigon. In the past six years under the supervision of their adopted father, those children, surviving and living with dignity and pride – an amazing example for anyone with similar physical conditions.
Mr. Quang -“The Father”, founded “An Phuc” in 2006 with the intention to create jobs and find a roof tor those physically disabled boys and girls – most of whom are a third generation Vietnamese , claimed or awaiting to be recognize as Agent Orange victims. Not an easy task to certified those children with such an official Governmental recognition; nor small financial, mental and physical responsibility to take care of them. Nevertheless, in the past six years Mr.Quang is doing just that. He not only dedicates his everyday life to those disables young adults but helps them to become self-respected, financially independent and better human beings.

Outfest Los Angeles LGBT Film Festival Unveils 2013 Lineup of Films

REACHING FOR THE MOON[/caption]The 31st Outfest Los Angeles LGBT Film Festival, to be held July 11 to 21, 2013, announced the complete film lineup for this years festival, including Kyle Patrick Alvarez’s “C.O.G.,” as Opening Night film and Darren Stein’s comedy “G.B.F.,” as closing night film.
In addition to opening and closing night, other gala screenings include: “Pit Stop” (U.S. Dramatic Centerpiece), Yen Tan’s quietly powerful Sundance darling, in which the Outfest alum provides an evocative glimpse into the lives of two Southern gay men; veteran Brazilian filmmaker Bruno Barreto returns with “Reaching for the Moon” (International Dramatic Centerpiece), a steamy tale of an unlikely romance between two extraordinary lesbian artists, set against the backdrop of political upheaval and a clash of cultures; ”God Loves Uganda” (Documentary Centerpiece), in which Academy Award–winner Roger Ross Williams provides powerful insight into the ignorance (cloaked in religion) exported by the United States to the rest of the world; and Pratibha Parmar‘s “Alice Walker: Beauty in Truth” (Fusion Centerpiece), a compelling and inspirational documentary about Alice Walker’s extraordinary journey from sharecropper’s daughter to activist, journalist, poet and Pulitzer Prize–winning novelist of The Color Purple.
Other films in this year’s festival include Travis Mathews and James Franco’s “Interior. Leather Bar.”, a provocative re-imagining of the lost 40 minutes of “Cruising”; the James Franco-produced documentary “Kink,” in which director Christina Voros takes us into the painful but oh-so-pleasurable world of five San Francisco–based BDSM workers; Linda Bloodworth Thomason’s award-winning “Bridegroom,” a powerful and poignant feature about love, loss and the courage of one young man to stand up for same-sex equality; Jeffrey Schwarz’s “I Am Divine,” a documentary about the legendary drag performer Divine; “The Battle of amFAR,” a triumphant short film by Outfest Achievement Award winners Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman, which focuses on the landmark AIDS advocacy group; and world premieres of “Igloo,” the feature film directorial debut by Chilean actor Diego Ruiz, and Del Shores’ hilarious and heartbreaking screen adaptation of his hit play “Southern Baptist Sissies”.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City[/caption]The 11th Annual Sprout Film Festival, showcasing over 50 films featuring people with developmental disabilities, will take place this Friday May 31st to Sunday June 2nd, 2013, at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.
At the festival, Sprout will also unveil their new and improved film distribution catalog, SPROUTFLIX, the only distributor of films specifically and exclusively related to the field of intellectual and developmental disabilities, and offers streams, downloads, DVDs and playlists to be purchased and licensed for institutional use.

2013 Cucalorus Film Festival is Seeking Filmmaker Submissions

The Cucalorus Film Festival in historic Wilmington, North Carolina, is looking for submissions from filmmakers for the upcoming 19th edition of the festival to held November 13-17, 2013. Cucalorus, describes itself as a free-spirited and multidisciplinary showcaseand screens an collection of independent and international films with special programs on social justice, emerging artists, shorts, works-in-progress, dance, music videos, North Carolina, and international cinema.
In addition to films, the festival supports innovation through programs like Dance-a-lorus, a live performance featuring collaborations between choreographers and filmmakers; and Visual/Sound/Walls, an experimental venue crammed full of music videos, surf movies and installations. The festival showcases a strong schedule of socially aware and politically challenging films, which engage audiences on contemporary issues.

Country Singer Lyle Lovett to be Honored at 2013 Lone Star Film Festival

Country singer-songwriter Lyle Lovett will be honored with the Stephen Bruton Award at the 2013 Lone Star Film Festival (LSFF). The Lone Star Film Festival in Sundance Square which has been ranked in the top 25 of MovieMaker Magazine’s coveted annual list “TOP 50 FILM FESTIVALS WORTH THE ENTRY FEE” will take place November 6-10, 2013, in Fort Worth, Texas.
The Stephen Bruton Award celebrates musicians who demonstrate a proficiency in film. Lovett will accept the award for his musical contribution to 30 films throughout his career as well as his appearance as an actor in eight, including Tim McCanlies’ Christmas story ANGELS SING, which premiered at this year’s SXSW Film Festival.
Stephen Bruton was a well-respected guitar player from Fort Worth who performed for many years with Kris Kristofferson. Bruton and childhood friend T Bone Burnett collaborated on the sound track for the movie CRAZY HEART. Bruton died at age 60 of cancer in T Bone’s Los Angeles home in 2009 just after the sound track was completed. Past recipients of the Stephen Bruton Award include Kris Kristofferson, T Bone Burnett, Willie Nelson, and Billy Joe Shaver.
