Barbie Leads Nominations for 29th Critics Choice Awards
Margot Robbie in Barbie (Warner Bros. Pictures) Barbie leads the film nominations for the 29th annual Critics Choice Awards earning 18 nominations including Best Picture and Best Comedy. The film received several acting nominations including Best Actress for Margot Robbie, Best Supporting Actor for Ryan Gosling and Best Supporting Actress for America Ferrera. Ariana Greenblatt is also up for Best Young Actor/Actress, and the cast garnered a Best Acting Ensemble nomination. Greta Gerwig earned a nod for Best Director and both Gerwig and Noah Baumbach are contenders for Best Original Screenplay.

Barbie (Warner Bros.), Oppenheimer (Melinda Sue Gordon | Universal Pictures), Poor Things (Atsushi Nishijima | Searchlight Pictures) Barbie lead the film nominations for the 81st annual Golden Globe Awards with nine, followed closely by Oppenheimer with eight. Other films receiving multiple nominations include Killers of the Flower Moon and Poor Things each receiving seven and Past Lives with five.

Andrew Haigh’s ‘All of Us Strangers’ Wins Best British Independent Film at British Independent Film Awards
All of Us Strangers directed by Andrew Haigh Andrew Haigh’s All of Us Strangers starring Andrew Scott walked away with the award for Best British Independent Film at the 2023 British Independent Film Awards (BIFA). Haigh also won the awards for Best Director and Best Screenplay. Two winners were announced for Best Supporting Performance with Paul Mescal winning one of those awards for his role in the film. In total, All of Us Strangers won 7 awards including the previously announced craft awards Best Cinematography for Jamie D. Ramsay, Best Editing for Jonathan Alberts and Best Music Supervision for Connie Farr.

Giampiero Pumo’s Ciurè and Guillaume Renusson’s ‘White Paradise’ Win Top Prizes at 22nd Rome Independent Film Festival
Ciurè directed by Giampiero Pumo (RIFF) Rome Independent Film Festival (RIIF) announced the winners of the XXII edition of the RIFF Awards with the Award for Best Italian Feature Film going to Ciurè by Giampiero Pumo. The film won “because it is constructed with delicacy and courage. Because Pumo is very good in the dual role of director and protagonist. Because it is an independent film that has the tone of a refined product. A film that talks about two worlds distant from each other that despite this meet and clash, giving life to a fairy tale in reverse”. Ciuré also won the “Mario Mieli” Special Prize for the best LGBTQIA+ project.

American Fiction The satire American Fiction took home the coveted Best Feature Film prize at the 2023 Twin Cities Film Fest. Starring Jeffrey Wright, the comedy marks Cord Jefferson’s (Watchmen, Succession, Master of None) memorable directorial debut, as he confronts America’s obsession with the reducing of people to outrageous stereotypes. The film recently won the People Choice Award at the Toronto Film Festival, often viewed as a bellwether of success at the Academy Awards.
