Anna Baumgarten’s Disfluency was named Best Narrative Feature, and Brandon Kramer’s The First Step won Best Documentary Feature at the 2022 Oxford Film Festival. Later, it was announced that Alysia Nahmias’ Krimes was the Barton Segal Audience Award winner.

Maggie Gyllenhaal’s The Lost Daughter was the big winner at the 37th Film Independent Spirit Awards, winning Best Feature along with Best Director and Best Screenplay for Maggie Gyllenhaal.

The 2022 Sundance Film Festival announced the winners of the Awards, with Grand Jury Prizes awarded to Nanny for U.S. Dramatic, The Exiles won for U.S. Documentary, Utama won for World Cinema Dramatic, and All That Breathes won for World Cinema Documentary.

The Canadian psychological thriller film Cinema Of Sleep directed by Jeffrey St. Jules won the Borsos Award for Best Canadian Feature at the 21st edition of Whistler Film Festival (WFF). Dayo Ade, star of Cinema Of Sleep, received the Best Performance in a Borsos Competition Film Award, with an honorable mention to his co-star Getenesh Berhe.

The Producers Guild of America (PGA) announced the 2022 Documentary Motion Picture nominees that will advance to the final round of voting for the 33rd Annual Producers Guild Awards. Last year, producer Craig Foster was honored with the award for Outstanding Producer of Documentary Motion Picture for “My Octopus Teacher,” which documented a year spent by Foster forging a relationship with a wild common octopus in a South African kelp forest.

Gravitas Ventures released the red band and green band trailers for The Snygg Brothers’ Monsters in the Closet starring Jasmin Flores, Shanna Bess (Manifest), Valerie Bittner (Beaster Day: Here Comes Peter Cottonhell), Tom Cikoski (Superbadazz), and Camilla Crawford. The horror film will be released on digital and on demand January 4, 2022.

The 2021 Asian World Film Festival (AWFF) unveiled its Competition, Centerpiece, and Special Screenings slate. The closing night film will be South Korea’s official submission to the 2022 Academy Awards, Escape from Mogadishu. The AWFF, now in its seventh year, will take place November 1 – 11, 2021 at the Landmark Theater, West Pico Blvd., Los Angeles.

The French drama Happening (L’Evenement) directed by Audrey Diwan is the winner of the Golden Lion for Best Film at the 78th Venice International Film Festival. The film, based on the Annie Ernaux’s novel of the same name, recounts the journey of a young woman’s physical and emotional battle to access illegal abortion in a desperate race against the clock.
