Hollywoodgate by Egyptian filmmaker Ibrahim Nash’at took the Grand Jury Award at the 2024 Full Frame Documentary Film Festival. With an interpreter by his side Nash’at documents a Taliban group taking control of a former CIA base nicknamed “Hollywoodgate” just days after the U.S. Army’s controversial withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021.

After showcasing over 190 films, the 48th Hong Kong International Film Festival (HKIFF48) announced the winners of the 15 Firebird Awards and FIPRESCI Prize, with A Journey in Spring, Snow in Midsummer and Sons taking the top prizes.

Dr. Anne Innis Dagg, the trailblazing scientist (born in Toronto, ON Canada and who resided most recently in Waterloo, ON Canada) spotlighted in the award-winning documentary, The Woman Who Loves Giraffes, passed away on Monday, April 1 following a short illness. She was 91.

Goodbye Julia directed by Mohamed Kordofani walked away with the Grand Jury Award, Best Narrative Feature at the 27th Sonoma International Film Festival. The film follows the story of Mona, a northern Sudanese retired singer in a tense marriage, who is wracked by guilt after covering up a murder.

I Have Electric Dreams directed by Valentina Maurel won the award for Best Feature Film at Gender Equity in Media Society (GEMS)’s 2024 GEMFest in Vancouver, Canada. The film also won Best Performance in a Feature for Daniela Marín Navarro, and Best Feature Screenplay for Valentina Maurel.

Ahead of the world premiere at the 2024 SXSW Film & TV Festival, a first-look clip is released for Things Will Be Different, Michael Felker’s twisting science fiction thriller film.

Oppenheimer won the top honor of Darryl F. Zanuck Award for Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Pictures for producers Emma Thomas, Charles Roven, and Christopher Nolan at the 35th Annual Producers Guild Awards.

Past Lives won the top film award of Best Feature along with Best Director for Celine Song at the 2024 Film Independent Spirit Awards. The Holdovers came away with the most awards of the night with three, including Best Supporting Performance for Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Best Breakthrough Performance for Dominic Sessa and Best Cinematography for Eigil Bryld.

Da’Vine Joy Randolph was honored for her performance in The Holdovers with the award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role at the 30th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards. Cillian Murphy, Lily Gladstone, and Robert Downey Jr. were also honored for performances in motion pictures; and the Actor® for a motion picture cast performance this year went to Oppenheimer.
