The Man Who Tried to Feed the World tells the story of Norman Borlaug, an American agronomist who won the 1970 Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts in fighting global hunger. By increasing the world’s food supply, Borlaug made it possible for the planet to support far more people than had been thought possible, saving countless lives in the process. But in doing so, he unleashed a series of unintended consequences that tarnished his reputation and forever changed the environmental and economic balance of the world. Written, directed and produced by Rob Rapley and executive produced by Mark Samels and Susan Bellows, The Man Who Tried to Feed the World premieres Tuesday, April 21, 2020, 8:00-9:00 p.m. ET on AMERICAN EXPERIENCE on PBS, PBS.org and the PBS Video App.

The Full Frame Documentary Film Festival announced the official feature and short film selections for the festival’s 23rd edition which was originally scheduled to take place April 2-5 in downtown Durham, but was cancelled amid COVID-19 public health and safety concerns. The NEW DOCS program and Invited Program includes 44 features and 12 shorts from 26 countries

Cinema Tropical launched The Cinema Tropical Collection, a new initiative that makes select Latin American films available digitally.

The debut documentary film Makongo by Elvis Sabin Ngaibino (Central African Republic / Argentina / Italy), which participated in the Final Cut in Venice workshop at the Venice International Film Festival 2019, won the Prix International de la Scam (the second award of the Festival) at the 42nd Cinéma du réel in Paris. The Festival was cancelled because of the current health emergency, but the Jury decided to view the selected films online anyway, and to award the prizes.

IFC Midnight released the trailer for the occult thriller The Wretched starring John-Paul Howard and Piper Curda which opens May 1st on digital platforms and VOD. The film directed and written by the Pierce brothers – Brett and Drew Pierce, follows a rebellious teenage boy who embarks on a gutsy crusade to stop the terrifying evil he suspects has possessed his neighbor.

The Raindance Film Festival will return to London and take place from October 28th to November 7th, 2020 for its twenty-eighth edition.

The romantic comedy The Lost Husband starring Josh Duhamel, Leslie Bibb and Nora Dunn which is set for release on April 10 via Quiver Distribution released the official trailer.

The first official trailer dropped today for the urban lit cult classic DUTCH, based on the first book of an epic trilogy by Teri Woods starring Lance Gross (“Tyler Perry’s House Of Payne”), James Hyde (“Monarca”), Tyrin Turner (“Meet The Blacks”), Isabella Ferreira (“Orange Is The New Black”), Melissa Williams (“Tyler Perry’s The Oval”), Macy Gray (“For Colored Girls”) and Jeremy Meeks, (“True to the Game 2”) with appearances by Michael Blackson (“Nobody’s Fool”), O.T. Genasis and Renny. DUTCH opens in select theaters Fall 2020.

When Liberty Burns, an incisive look at Miami’s infamous 1980 race riots in Liberty City stemming from the fatal police beating of Arthur McDuffie, directed by Dudley Alexis, won the $30,000 Knight Made in MIA Feature Film Award, the most anticipated prize of the 37th edition of Miami Film Festival.

The Fever, directed by Maya Da-Rin and This is Not a Burial, It’s a Resurrection, directed by Lemohang Jeremiah Mosese are the winners of the 43rd Portland International Film Festival’s Future/future competition.
