Project Twenty1, the Philadelphia-based film festival and competition, is holding its 5th annual Film & Animation Festival the weekend of October 1st through 3rd at the 350-seat International House theater at 3701 Chestnut St.

The San Francisco Film Society in association with the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in San Francisco, Taiwan’s Government Information Office and Taiwan’s Tourism Board presents Taiwan Film Days, October 22 – 24 at Viz Cinema at the New People center, 1746 Post Street. This exciting showcase highlights the best of contemporary Taiwanese cinema and provides Bay Area audiences with unique opportunities to view bold new Taiwanese films and engage with visionary filmmakers.

The Joint National Board of Screen Actors Guild (SAG) and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA, AFL-CIO) today met by videoconference plenary in Los Angeles and New York and approved a package of proposals for the upcoming Joint AFTRA Exhibit A and SAG TV/Theatrical Negotiations.

American audiences have been treated to an amazing spectrum of German films over the years. The past decade has been no exception. The Goethe-Institut Los Angeles is delighted that German Currents, the fourth annual showcase of recent German films is returning this year to the Aero Theatre and other venues around Los Angeles. The opening night film (WHEN WE LEAVE) and the second night screening (ROCK HUDSON) will take place at the Egyptian Theatre, ANIMALS UNITED in 3D will screen at The Landmark, and a children’s matinee film will screen at Goethe-Institut Los Angeles; the rest of the program will take place at the American Cinematheque’s Aero Theatre in Santa Monica.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has awarded a $50,000 grant to underwrite the 2010 Telluride Film Festival’s Guest Director program, this year featuring novelist and screenwriter of “The English Patient,” Michael Ondaatje.

AFI FEST presented by Audi announced today that award-winning filmmaker and artist David Lynch will serve as its first-ever Guest Artistic Director. AFI FEST 2010 will take place November 4 through 11 in Hollywood, California at the historic Grauman’s Chinese Theatre, the Mann Chinese 6 theatres, the Egyptian Theatre and the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel.

Olive Films will present the US Theatrical release of THE GIRL, a film by Fredrik Edfeldt. THE GIRL premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival, and was selected as one of ten films in the Variety Critic’s Choice program at the 2009 Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. THE GIRL will open in New York at Cinema Village on September 17 and in Los Angeles at Laemmle Sunset 5 on October 1. Other cities will follow.

Olive Films will present the US Theatrical Release of THE TEMPTATION OF ST. TONY, a film by Velko Õunpuu. This film premiered at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival and screened at the Rotterdam International Film Festival. THE TEMPTATION OF ST. TONY will open in New York at Cinema Village on September 17, and in Los Angeles at Laemmle Sunset 5 on October 1. Other cities will follow.

Zeitgeist Films will present the US theatrical release of VISION, a film by Margaretha von Trotta. Official Selection – Telluride and Toronto film festivals, VISION will have its theatrical premiere at Film Forum in NYC on October 13, and will open in Los Angeles at Laemmle theaters on November 5. A national release will follow.

The Temecula Valley International Film & Music Festival (TVIFF) announced today that Raquel Welch, sex symbol of the 1960s and 1970s and current best-selling author will be given the Icon Award at the 16th Annual festival, September 15-19, 2010. Welch will receive the award in person at an open to the public, star-studded, black tie gala on closing night of the festival. Known for her glamour and beauty, Welch has sustained a high profile career over five decades in more than 35 films, scores of television appearances and on the stage.

Olive Films will present the US theatrical release of AMER, a feature debut by Hélène Cattet and Bruno Forzani. Official selection at New Directors New Films, SXSW, Seattle International Film Festival, and winner of multiple international festival awards, AMER will have its theatrical release in New York at Cinema Village and in Los Angeles at Sunset 5 on Friday, October 29, 2010. Other cities will follow.
