  • Brownlow, Coppola, Godard and Wallach to Receive Academy’s Governors Awards

    The Board of Governors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences voted last night to present the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award to producer-director Francis Ford Coppola and Honorary Awards to historian and preservationist Kevin Brownlow, director Jean-Luc Godard and actor Eli Wallach. All four awards will be presented at the Academy’s 2nd Annual Governors Awards dinner on Saturday, November 13, at the Grand Ballroom at Hollywood & Highland Center®.

  • San Francisco Film Society Announces Finalists for Fall 2011 Djerassi Screenwriting Residency Award

    San Francisco Film Society announced the six finalists for the 2011 Djerassi Residency Award/San Francisco Film Society Screenwriting Fellowship. The fellowship is part of the Film Society’s suite of filmmaker services designed to foster creativity and further the careers of independent filmmakers. The Djerassi Resident Artists Program, located 40 miles south of San Francisco in the Santa Cruz Mountains overlooking the Pacific Ocean, offers living and studio accommodations and all meals at no cost to an emerging or established screenwriter from August 9 through September 8, 2011. The award provides uninterrupted time for work, reflection and collegial interaction, making the opportunity unique in its capacity to provide the winner with an inspiring and supportive environment in a stunning rural location. The finalists were selected from 67 applicants submitted in response to an international call for entries. This award is supported by a gift from Dale Djerassi. Finalists and projects follow.

  • Award-Winning Documentary – Marwencol – Opens In NYC Oct. 8; In LA Nov. 12

    “Marwenco”, a documentary film by Jeff Malmberg, and winner of the Grand Jury Award at SXSW, Seattle International Film Festival and Cleveland International Film Festival, as well as winner of Best Documentary at Comic-Con and winner of multiple other awards at festivals,  will have its New York theatrical release on Friday, October 8 at the IFC Center.  The film will open in Los Angeles at the Nuart on Friday, November 12.  Other cities will follow.

  • 2010 Tribeca Film Festival Announces Heineken Audience Award Winner – “Rush: Beyond the Lighted Stage”

    The ninth annual Tribeca Film Festival (TFF), announced the winner of The Heineken Audience Award – “RUSH: Beyond the Lighted Stage”.  The film’s directors Scot McFadyen and Sam Dunn will receive a cash prize of $25,000.

    “RUSH: Beyond the Lighted Stage” – a mesmerizing music documentary of the legendary Canadian band Rush – made its world premiere at this year’s Festival, capturing the hearts of fans and newcomers.  In the film, directors McFadyen and Dunn embark on a comprehensive exploration of this extraordinary power trio, from their early days in Toronto through each of their landmark albums to the present day.  Audiences were able to sit back and revel in the words, music and wonder of Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson and Neil Peart.
