
The 5th New York Baltic Film Festival (NYBFF) presented by Scandinavia House: The Nordic Center in America returns on November 2-13, 2022 as a hybrid festival featuring 15 feature films – 10 narrative and 5 documentaries.

Filmmaker Ava DuVernay will serve as Guest Artistic Director at AFI Fest 2022 and has selected three independent films amplifying the voices and vision of women directors to showcase: Hellion (2014), directed by Kat Candler and starring Juliette Lewis and Aaron Paul; Mosquita y Mari (2012), directed by Aurora Guerrero; and Yelling to the Sky (2011), directed by Victoria Mahoney and starring Gabourey Sidibe and Zoë Kravitz. In addition to the screenings, Ava DuVernay will moderate a special panel with the directors, who are part of the historic all-women directorial roster for the acclaimed drama series Queen Sugar.

The 2022 Montclair Film Festival unveiled its program featuring over 130 films, events, parties, and conversations for the festival’s 11th edition.

Catherine Deneuve, Benoît Magimel and director Emmanuelle Bercot reunite for Peaceful (De son vivant), a French drama described as a lyrical and moving portrait about the fragility of the human experience. Benoît Magimel won the Award for Best Actor at the 27th Lumières Awards and 47th César Awards for his performance in the film.

Directed by Nelson George, Say Hey, Willie Mays!, is a new documentary film exploring the life and career of Major League Baseball Hall of Famer Willie Mays, including exclusive interviews with Mays and his family. The film will have its world premiere at the 2022 UrbanWorld Film Festival on October 27, and debuts Wednesday, November 8 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on HBO.

Altered Innocence debuted the new official U.S. trailer for Brother’s Keeper (Okul Tıraşı) Ferit Karahan’s award-winning tense Turkish thriller that premiered at Berlin International Film Festival – Panorama 2021 and won the FIPRESCI Prize.

Peacock unveiled the official trailer for the documentary Prince Andrew: Banished, premiering October 5 on the streaming network.

Screen Media unveiled the official trailer for The Accursed, a horror film starring Mena Suvari (American Beauty), and Sarah Grey (Power Rangers) who has to look after an elderly woman, played by Meg Foster (They Live), who is demon-possessed. Also starring in the film is Alexis Knapp (Pitch Perfect).

Ethan Hawke and Ewan McGregor star in Raymond & Ray as half brothers who reunite when their estranged father dies, and discover that his final wish was for them to dig his grave. Also starring in the dramedy film are Maribel Verdú, Sophie Okonedo, Maxim Swinton, Vondie Curtis-Hall, Chris Silcox, Chris Grabher, and Oscar Nunez.

Netflix debuted the official trailer for Descendant, filmmaker Margaret Brown documents the story of the Clotilda – the last known ship to smuggle stolen Africans to America. Descendant premiered at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival where the film won a special jury prize winner.

Director Ron Howard along with Aubrey Plaza, Jonathan Majors, Keke Palmer and Patton Oswalt are among the individuals honored at the upcoming 2022 Newport Beach Film Festival (NBFF). NBFF will also honor Eddie Redmayne, Colson Baker, Cooper Raiff, Anna Diop, Paul Feig, and Aimee Carrero.
