
SXSW award-winning documentary Finding Yingying directed by Jiayan “Jenny” Shi will open nationwide in virtual cinema starting on December 11th. The documentary follows a Chinese family’s search to find their missing daughter in the United States.

IFC Films will release Falling For Figaro, a romantic comedy set in the fierce world of opera-singing competitions, starring BAFTA-winner Joanna Lumley (Absolutely Fabulous, Me Before You, The Wolf of Wall Street) and rising star Danielle Macdonald (Dumplin’, Patti Cake$, Skin). Directed by Ben Lewin (The Catcher Was A Spy, Please Stand By, The Sessions), the film is expected to be released in 2021.

Frederick Wiseman’s City Hall will broadcast premiere on PBS on Tuesday, December 22, 8:00 p.m.-12:00 a.m. The 45th film from Wiseman, “City Hall” immerses audiences in the municipality of his hometown of Boston to illustrate a government taking care of its diverse citizens. Through his filmmaking, audiences come to realize how city government touches upon almost every aspect of their lives, acknowledging how necessary services like sanitation, veterans affairs, elder support, parks, licensing bureaus, recordkeeping, as well as a myriad of other activities that support the citizenry, are often taken for granted.

IFC Midnight has acquired the horror film “A Banquet”, the feature debut from Ruth Paxton, whose award-winning short films have been exhibited and nominated in competition at numerous prominent film festivals worldwide. A Banquet is a visually arresting, slow-burning psychological horror that uses subtle supernatural elements to create tension within a family in the midst of a breakdown, exploiting the complicated bond between three generations of mothers and daughters.

Revelation Perth International Film Festival announced the nominees of the inaugural WA Screen Culture Awards set to place on Sunday December 13 hosted by self-proclaimed ‘Australia’s 1st Attractive Comedian’, Elouise Eftos.

Havel by Slávek Horák, inspired by the life of Václav Havel, prominent Czech playwright, dissident, and president, was awarded the top prize for Best Feature Film at 2020 Rome Independent Film Festival. The film focuses on Havel’s transformation from successful – later banned – playwright of the late 60s into human rights fighter in the 70s, leading to his presidency in the late 80’s. A Special mention went to La Fortaleza by Jorge Thielen-Armand.
