
Helen Reddy, the Australian-born singer known worldwide for her hit song “I Am Woman” making her a feminist anthem and the subject of the biopic of the same title, died on Tuesday in Los Angeles. She was 78.

Berlin Film Festival today confirmed that founding director Alfred Bauer, after whom the Silver Bear – Alfred Bauer Prize award was named, did play a role in the Reichsfilmintendanz which was more significant than previously known and was systematically covered up by him after 1945. Reichsfilmintendanz was the central institution for controlling film production in the Nazi regime.

Three British filmmakers – Cathy Brady, writer/director of her debut feature Wildfire, Aleem Khan, writer/ director of his debut feature After Love and Francis Lee, writer/director of his sophomore feature Ammonite – are shortlisted for the IWC Schaffhausen Filmmaker Bursary Award which will be announced at the 2020 BFI London Film Festival.

Lovers Rock directed by BFI Fellow Steve Mc Queen, has been added to the lineup of this year’s BFI London Film Festival. The Killing of Kenneth Chamberlain is based on the true story of the events that led to the death of Kenneth Chamberlain Sr., an elderly African American veteran suffering from bipolar disorder, who was killed during a conflict with police officers who were dispatched to check on him.
