Over 140 documentary films will be showcased as part of 2020 Hot Docs Festival Online, which starts May 28. Among the documentaries featured at the festival include Finding Sally, directed by Tamara Mariam Dawit; and the World Premiere of First We Eat directed by Suzanne Crocker; and Meat the Future directed by Liz Marshall.
CineCina Film Festival rolls out its Online Film Festival this week spotlighting 9 feature films and 2 classic short films, highlighted by award-winners like Congcong Teng’s SEND ME TO THE CLOUDS and Oliver Siu Kuen Chan’s STILL HUMAN. The online festival will be made made available on CathayPlay.com, beginning this week and next, as the New York City-based film festival joins other film organizations presenting films virtually. Hola Mexico Film Festival which has been postponed until September 2020, wants to help give viewers a chance to see some of the best films that have come out of Mexico in recent years with the launch of the Hola Mexico Virtual Theater online film series starting May 21.
Indie film director Lynn Shelton of many critically acclaimed films including Humpday, Sword of Trust and Outside In died on Friday at a hospital in Los Angeles of a previously unidentified blood disorder. She was 54.
Unsettled: Seeking Refuge in America, a documentary directed by Tom Shepard reveals the untold stories of LGBTQ refugees and asylum-seekers. Unsettled had its World Premiere at the San Francisco International Film Festival and is the winner of the Best Documentary Feature Film at 2019 Outfest (playing at 55 festivals worldwide and winning 14 other top awards). Unsettled will lead Doc World’s new season which broadcasts on public media’s WORLD Channel on June 28 and will be available for streaming on WorldChannel.org through July 12.
The documentary Ask No Questions, that premiered at the Slamdance Film Festival 2020 released the new trailer ahead of its release on VOD on June 30th. Directed by Jason Loftus and Eric Pedicelli, Ask No Questions is described as an expose on the dark side of the Chinese government.
