The San Sebastian Film Festival released the first six titles competing for the Golden Shell at its 68th edition. The list features returning filmmakers Naomi Kawase, François Ozon, and new directors such as Dea Kulumbegashvili and Takuma Sato, among others.
In response to the ongoing worldwide health crisis, this year’s Camden International Film Festival and Points North Forum will be the most global, accessible edition of the festival to date, and will include a 12-day creative virtual experience with dozens of livestream events, alongside the launch of the festival’s very own drive-in movie theatre, and screenings at a small number of reduced-capacity theatres in Maine.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has invited 819 artists and executives including Awkwafina – “The Farewell,” Natasha Lyonne – “Honey Boy,” and Lakeith Stanfield – “Sorry to Bother You” to join the organization. The 2020 class is 45% women, 36% underrepresented ethnic/racial communities, and 49% international from 68 countries. There are 75 Oscar® nominees, including 15 winners, and five recipients of Scientific and Technical Awards. Those who accept the invitations will be the only additions to the Academy’s membership in 2020.
The Whitaker St. Louis Filmmakers Showcase screens works that were shot in the St. Louis region or were written, directed, or produced by St. Louis-area residents or by filmmakers with strong local ties who are now working elsewhere. Because of the Covid-19 health crisis, the Showcase will be presented virtually in 2020.
America’s Last Little Italy: The Hill will debut online July 10th through 19th aspart of the 20th annual St. Louis Filmmakers Showcase. This historical documentary traces the roots of the venerable St. Louis neighborhood known as “The Hill.”
Cosmic horror film The Beach House unleashed the new trailer ahead of the July 9th release on AMC’s Shudder. The indie sci-fi/horror from Jeffrey A. In a statement released today, Tabitha Jackson, the new director of Sundance Film Festival revealed the approach for the 2021 festival in the new normal of the coronavirus pandemic. The Festival is pursuing what is being described as a grand partnership of communities – it will take place live in Utah and in at least 20 independent and community cinemas across the U.S. and beyond with an online home at the center of all the planning.

Amidst the global coronavirus pandemic, the 45th edition of the Toronto International Film Festival, taking place September 10–19, is tailoring to fit the moment, with physical screenings and drive-ins, digital screenings, virtual red carpets, press conferences and industry talks. This year’s selection comprises a lineup of 50 new feature films, five programs of short films, as well as interactive talks, film cast reunions, and Q&As with cast and filmmakers.
