ArtMattan Films acquired the award winning drama Made In Bangladesh by Rubaiyat Hossain, based on the life of Daliya Akter, a garment worker who escaped child marriage and went on to lead a trade union fighting for workers’ rights in Bangladesh capital, Dhaka.
Film at Lincoln Center will present The Bong Show, a retrospective of internationally beloved South Korean filmmaker Bong Joon Ho, January 7 to 14.
Slamdance Film Festival will open with world premiere of Lynne Sachs’ Film About a Father Who. Over a period of 35 years between 1984 and 2019, filmmaker Lynne Sachs shot 8 and 16mm film, videotape and digital images of her father, Ira Sachs Sr., a bon vivant and pioneering businessman from Park City, Utah. The 26th edition of the festival will take place January 24 to 30, 2020 in Park City, Utah.
“Come to daddy!” A new official trailer debuted today for the indie film Come To Daddy starring Elijah Wood as a man in his thirties who travels to a remote cabin to reconnect with his estranged father. Directed by Ant Timpson making his feature directorial debut, the film also stars Stephen McHattie, Martin Donovan, Michael Smiley, Madeleine Sami, and Simon Chin. Come To Daddy which premiered at the 2019 Tribeca Film Festival will open in select US theaters and on VOD starting February 7th, 2020.
The American Black Film Festival (ABFF) Honors announced the nominees for its “Movie of the Year” award. The ABFF Honors’ “Movie of theYear” award is a competitive award presented to the best feature-length film of the year directed by and/or starring a lead actor or actress of African descent.
The 2020 Berlinale which marks the 70th edition of the Berlin International Film Festival unveiled the festival poster which shines a light on the 70th anniversary. The anniversary festival which runs February 20 to March 01, 2020, will also be the first festival headed by director duo Mariette Rissenbeek (Executive Director) and Carlo Chatrian (Artistic Director).
The Oklahoma Film Critics Circles (OFCC) voted “Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood” as the Best Picture of 2019. Honors for Best Documentary went to “American Factory,” Best Foreign Language Film went to “Parasite” and Best First Feature went to Joe Talbot’s “The Black Man in San Francisco.”
International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) revealed the full film lineup of 2020, including the 10 films selected for the Tiger Competition. Also revealed: the selections of the Big Screen Competition and the revamped Bright Future Competition, the 2020 opening and closing films, the fifth theme program Ordinary Heroes and a special screening of David Cronenberg’s Crash (1996) with a live musical score by the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra.

The Dallas-Fort Worth Film Critics Association voted 1917 as the best film of 2019, according to the results of its 26th annual critics’ poll. The Russell Smith Award for best low-budget or cutting-edge independent film went to The Lighthouse.
Three feature films – The Social Dilemma along with Born into Brothels and High Art from The Collection Films have been added to the 2020 Sundance Film Festival’s robust slate of independent films. Additionally the Festival announced that previously-announced Special Event, Love Fraud, will screen on Day One of the Festival. The Festival will take place in Park City, Salt Lake City and at Sundance Mountain Resort January 23 to February 2, 2020.
