Cannes Film Festival postponed early this year due to the COVID19 pandemic, will present a special Fall edition titled “2020 Special Cannes” featuring part of the 2020 Cannes Official Selection. Set to begin on May 29 on YouTube.com/WeAreOne, the festival will feature programming curated by the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, Berlin International Film Festival, BFI London Film Festival, Cannes Film Festival, Guadalajara International Film Festival, International Film Festival & Awards Macao (IFFAM), Jerusalem Film Festival, Mumbai Film Festival (MAMI), Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, Locarno Film Festival, Marrakech International Film Festival, New York Film Festival, San Sebastian International Film Festival, Sarajevo Film Festival, Sundance Film Festival, Sydney Film Festival, Tokyo International Film Festival, Toronto International Film Festival, Tribeca Film Festival, Venice Film Festival, and more.

Cannes Film Festival is running out of options for a 2020 festival, following the French President’s statement on Monday banning any large festivals and events with large audiences before mid-July at the earliest.

Cannes Film Festival has decided to postpone this year’s festival scheduled to take place May 12 to 23. The festival announced that it is considering options to preserve its running, the main one being a simple postponement, in Cannes, until the end of June-beginning of July, 2020.

Director Spike Lee will serve as President of the Jury at the 73rd edition of Cannes Film Festival, taking place from Tuesday, May 12 to Saturday May 23, 2020. The Official Selection and the composition of the Jury will be revealed in mid-April.

Netflix has acquired worldwide rights to Mati Diop’s award winning film Atlantics that premiered at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival, where it won the Grand Prix. Atlantics is Diop’s feature directorial debut and she is the first black woman ever to compete for the Palme d’Or.
