ABOUT THE FESTIVAL
The Hamptons International Film Festival was founded to celebrate Independent film- long, short, fiction and documentary - and to introduce a unique and varied spectrum of international films and filmmakers to our audiences. The festival is committed to exhibiting films that express fresh voices and differing global perspectives, with the hope that these programs will enlighten audiences, provide invaluable exposure for filmmakers and present inspired entertainment for all.
The 21st Hamptons International Film Festival which takes place this year from October 10th – 14th, 2013, will open with John Krokidas’ KILL YOUR DARLINGS and close with Steve McQueen’s much buzzed 12 YEARS A SLAVE. Alexander Payne’s NEBRASKA, starring Bruce Dern and Will Forte has been selected as the Festival’s Sunday Centerpiece film.
The Hamptons International Film Festival announced the appointment of Anne Chaisson as the new executive director. Chaisson, who has long been associated with the Festival, serving as Advisory Co-Chair since 2003, will begin her new post at the end of November. The hometown film, Marc Levin’s HARD TIMES: LOST ON LONG ISLAND, and THE ARTIST directed by Michel Hazanavicius took the audience awards tonight at the 2011 Hamptons International Film Festival.
HARD TIMES: LOST ON LONG ISLAND follows a group of Long Island residents as they courageously describe the effect that their long time unemployed status has had on their families, finances, and ultimately their American dream; and THE ARTIST is a comedic tribute to silent film starring Jean Dujardin. {jathumbnail off}
The 2011 Hamptons International Film Festival continues through Monday, October 17, 2011, but Saturday proved to be a very popular day for festival goers. With a packed day of screenings, it was frustrating because many of the great films and events (like TV channels) all seem to be happening at the same time, so it was really hard to pick and choose.
The new drama film, My Week With Marilyn has just been added to the 2011 Hamptons International Film Festival lineup. The film screens Saturday, October 16th at Guild Hall. The 2011 Hamptons International Film Festival runs from Thursday, October 13th through Monday, October 17th in East Hampton with additional venues in Southampton, Sag Harbor, Westhampton and Montauk, announce its Southampton opener, Spotlight Films, the World Cinema Section and the films in this year’s Competition.
HIFF will kick-off in Southampton, on Friday, October 14th with The Weinstein Company’s dark comedy Butter starring Jennifer Garner, Olivia Wilde, Ty Burrell, Yara Shahidi, Hugh Jackman and Alicia Silverstone.
The Festival’s Opening Night Film on Thursday, October 13th is the Jason Segel and Susan Sarandon heartwarming comedy Jeff, Who Lives at Home, Closing Night Film is the Cannes Film Festival critics’ darling The Artist and the Centerpiece Film is winner of the Grand Jury Prize for Best Picture at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival Like Crazy.

The Artist, a Weinstein Company release, will screen at Guild Hall in East Hampton on October 16th as the Closing Night Film of the 2011 Hamptons International Film Festival (HIFF)
The Artist is set in Hollywood 1927. George Valentin (Jean Dujardin) is a silent movie superstar. The advent of the talkies will sound the death knell for his career and see him fall into oblivion. For young extra Peppy Miller (Berenice Bejo), it seems the sky’s the limit – major movie stardom awaits. The Artist tells the story of their interlinked destinies. The Artist stars Jean Dujardin, winner of this year’s Cannes Film Festival 2011 Best Actor award on behalf of the film, along with Berenice Bejo, John Goodman, James Cromwell, Missi Pyle and Penelope Ann Miller. The Hamptons International Film Festival (HIFF) announced this year’s festival dates, Thursday, October 13 – Monday, October 17, 2011.
