Five world premiere feature films, plus four award-winning feature films from previous Festivals have been added to the 2023 Sundance Film Festival lineup. The 2023 Festival will take place January 19–29, 2023, in person in Park City, Salt Lake City, and the Sundance Resort, along with a selection of films available online across the country January 24–29, 2023.
The techno-horror psychological thriller Deleter won the prize of Best Picture at the 2022 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) Gabi ng Parangal, along with Best Director for Mikhail Red, Best Lead Actress for Nadine Lustre, Best Cinematography, Best Editing and Best Sound.
Actor and comedian Deon Cole will return as host of the American Black Film Festival (ABFF) Honors set to take place in Los Angeles on Sunday, March 5, 2023. ABFF’s annual award season gala honors Black artists who have made significant contributions to the motion picture and television industry, as well as those who champion diversity and inclusion in Hollywood.
Gringa directed by EJ Foerster and Marny Eng which received its Canadian Premiere at the festival, has been voted the winner of the Audience Award of 22nd edition of the Whistler Film Festival.
Berlin Film Festival unveiled titles selected for Berlinale Special, Berlinale Series, Forum and Forum Expanded; along wit the official poster of the upcoming 73rd edition of the festival. “The key visual for the 73rd Berlinale directs our attention to the indispensable core of a metropolitan film festival: the audience. Brendan Fraser will receive the Spotlight Award, Actor for his performance in The Whale at the Palm Springs International Film Awards. The Film Awards will take place in-person on January 5, 2023, with the festival running through January 16, 2023.
Henrik Martin Dahlsbakken’s multi-layered essay on Edvard Munch’s life and art, Munch – a surprising mix of classical cinema and formal experiment, will open the 2023 International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) on Wednesday 25 January, 2023.
Filmed in evocative black and white, A Perfect Day for Caribou, starring Charlie Plummer (Lean on Pete; Looking for Alaska) and Jeb Berrier (First Cow; Shrill) will make its US premiere at Slamdance Film Festival. Also starring in the film are Rachael Perrell Fosket, Dana Millican, and Oellis Levine.
Filmmaker Luca Guadagnino will receive the International Icon Award at Opening Night: A Taste of Sundance on January 19 in Park City. Guadagnino will join previously announced honorees of the evening, Ryan Coogler, W. Kamau Bell, and Nikyatu Jusu. Opening Night: A Taste of Sundance will kick off the 2023 Sundance Film Festival by honoring inspiring and breakout storytellers whose journeys have been connected to Sundance throughout the years while raising funds and awareness for the Institute.
Films by Sepideh Farsi, Jennifer Reeder, Tina Satter, Sacha Polak, Malene Choi and Ira Sachs are among the first 14 films selected for the Panorama line-up of the 2023 Berlin International Film Festival. In the Generation program, the first 18 films confirmed so far include feature film debuts of Antonio Bigni, Domien Huyghe, Jenna Hasse, Sofia Auza, Zeno Graton, Carla Subirana and Jhi Wei Jow.
