Montclair Film Festival announced the program lineup for the 10th edition of the festival running October 21-30, 2021, along with Maggie Gyllenhaal’s debut The Lost Daughter. Maggie Gyllenhaal will receive the festival’s Breakthrough Director & Writer Award for her work on the film and join Stephen Colbert in Conversation as part of the festival’s Storyteller Series.

Whistler Film Festival unveiled the first of many Canadian and International titles coming to Whistler in 2021, including The Power of the Dog, with Benedict Cumberbatch, Kirsten Dunst, Jesse Plemons, and Kodi Smit-McPhee. Directed by Academy Award Winner Jane Campion (The Piano), in her first feature film in twelve years, The Power of the Dog tells the story of charismatic rancher Phil Burbank who inspires fear and awe in those around him. When his brother brings home a new wife and her son, Phil torments them until he finds himself exposed to the possibility of love.
The International Premiere of George Clooney’s The Tender Bar starring Ben Affleck, Tye Sheridan and Lily Rabe has been added to the program of the 2021 BFI London Film Festival. Also added to the program is Vengeance Is Mine, All Others Pay Cash from Indonesian director Edwin, a dizzying film adaptation of Eka Kurniawan’s acclaimed novel about an impotent aspiring assassin.

The 57th Chicago International Film Festival running October 13 – 24, 2021 announced the new directors and international feature competitions lineup showcasing films from countries around the world, including Colombia, Jordan, France, South Africa, Cambodia, the Faroe Islands, Germany, and more. This year’s competitions will include the World Premiere of Babushkas of Chernobyl director Holly Morris’ documentary Exposure and the International Premiere of Franziska Stünkel’s The Last Execution.
Hot Springs Documentary Film Festival will kick off its 30th edition with the Opening Night presentation of Samuel D. Pollard and Rex Miller’s Citizen Ashe, followed by the Centerpiece Selections of E. International Documentary Film Festival (IDFA) announced the first films selected for its 34th edition: the Top 10 program curated by Guest of Honor Hito Steyerl, and a four-title program with the films of Artavazd Pelechian. Both directors will be in attendance at IDFA 2021, which runs November 17 to 28 in Amsterdam.
The Brooklyn Horror Film Festival will once again hold an in-person festival for their sixth edition, with screenings for the 2021 fest to take place in North Brooklyn at Nitehawk Cinema Williamsburg, Williamsburg Cinemas, and Stuart Cinema from October 14-21.
Belfast, directed by Kenneth Branagh won the People’s Choice Award, the top prize at the 46th edition of the Toronto International Film Festival. The TIFF 2021 People’s Choice Documentary Award went to The Rescue, directed by E. Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin; and the TIFF 2021 People’s Choice Midnight Madness Award winner is Titane, directed by Julia Ducournau.
