Lane County’s longest-running film festival, The Archaeology Channel International Film Festival, opens its 19th annual edition on May 11th with the Festival Banquet at the Gordon Hotel in Eugene, Oregon. Krakow Film Festival announced that Finnish documentary filmmaker Jarmo Jääskeläinen died on 2 January 2022. He was 84 years old. He was to receive the most valuable statuette Dragon of Dragons of the Krakow Film Festival in May for his contribution to global documentary cinema.

Palm Springs International Film Society has canceled the upcoming 2022 Palm Springs International Film Festival which was set to take place this year from January 7-17, 2022.

Ferroequinology, literally meaning the study of iron horses, is a feature-length documentary with luminous black and white cinematography, directed by Alex Nevill about the passion and artistry of railroad photography. Having made its World Premiere at Chichester Film Festival (UK) in August 2021, Ferroequinology comes Stateside for its North American Premiere at 2022 Slamdance Film Festival. The film will screen virtually from January 27-Feburary 6, 2022.

Following Sundance Film Festival’s announcement, Slamdance Film Festival 2022 is also responding to increasing concerns around the Omicron variant by canceling the in-person portion of the upcoming festival and moving completely virtual. The festival will now start a week later on January 27 and run through February 6, 2022.

The fifth anniversary of Animation First, the only film festival in the US dedicated to shining a light on the enduring ingenuity of French animation and its diverse representation of international artists, studios and schools returns to French Institute Alliance Française (FIAF) in person with an exciting lineup of programs from Friday, February 11 to Sunday, February 13. For the first time, the festival will also continue online with exclusive content from Monday, February 14 to Monday, February 21.
