The Indian short film CatDog directed by Ashmita Guha wins the Orona – Nest Award at the 2020 San Sebastian International Film Festival. The award which comes with 10,000 euros is given to a film “for its bold but intimate storytelling capable of suggesting the depth of fictional and also real power games”. The Speech directed by Haohao Yan received a Special Mention.
NewFest, the New York LGBTQ Film Festival, finally unveiled the complete lineup for this year’s 32nd edition of the festival. The 62nd Lübeck Nordic Film Days (Nordische Filmtage Lübeck) taking place November 4 – 08, 2020, will dedicate this year’s Retrospective to “Fishermen’s Films – Fishing in Nordic and Baltic Cinema”. Curator Jörg Schöning focussed this year’s selection on narrative and documentary films made between 1912 and 2019 that shine a spotlight on a profession that is part idyll, part commercial venture. This brings to a conclusion the section’s Baltic cycle, begun in 2018 with “Baltic Transfer” and continued in 2019 with “Undercover North/Northeast”.
