The Toronto International Film Festival, alongside the International Federation of Film Critics (FIPRESCI) and the Network for the Promotion of Asian Pacific Cinema (NETPAC), announced FIPRESCI and NETPAC award winners for work screened at TIFF 2020.
The 45th edition of Toronto International Film Festival wrapped last night with the Closing Night Presentation of Mira Nair’s A Suitable Boy at the RBC Lakeside Drive-In at Ontario Place, and announce its award recipients for 2020. The People’s Choice Award winner is Nomadland directed by Chloé Zhao, People’s Choice Documentary Award winner is Inconvenient Indian directed by Michelle Latimer, and the People’s Choice Midnight Madness Award winner is Shadow in the Cloud directed by Roseanne Liang.
Beyond Fest announced the complete slate of 2020 programming including world premieres of Christopher Landon’s from Blumhouse Freaky, Adam Egypt Mortimer’s Archenemy, and Jim Cummings’ The Wolf of Snow Hollow. Beyond Fest will take place this year at the Mission Tiki Drive-In, from Friday, October 2nd – Thursday, October 8th.
Five films will compete for the Cooperación Española Award given by the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) at San Sebastian Festival’s 68th edition. The accolade goes every year, since 2015, to the producer of the Latin American film (including Spanish and Portuguese films) making the best contribution to human development, the eradication of poverty and the full exercising of human rights.
David Oyelowo’s feature directorial debut, The Water Man, will open the 24th Annual Urbanworld Film Festival on Wednesday, September 23, 2020. Oyelowo also stars in the fantasy-adventure film that follows a boy who sets out on a quest to save his ill mother by searching for a mythic figure said to have magical healing powers.
This year’s 9th edition of the Montclair Film Festival (MFF) will open on Friday, October 16, with Chloé Zhao’s Nomadland and close on Saturday, October 24, with Regina King’s One Night in Miami…. The festival taking place October 16-25, 2020 in Montclair, NJ will screen the Opening, Closing, and Centerpiece Films at the Montclair Film Festival’s Carpool Theater drive-in, with the Virtual Centerpiece screening on Montclair Film’s new Virtual Cinema platform.
Hamptons International Festival (HIFF), has added new films to the 2020 lineup including the Spotlight section, as well as Signature Programs including Views From Long Island; Air, Land & Sea; and Compassion, Justice & Animal Rights. The 28th Annual Festival will run October 8 – 14, 2020 with both Virtual & Drive-In screenings.

Hot Springs Documentary Film Festival announced the complete lineup of 110 films, honorees, and special events for its 29th edition – a virtual/drive-in presentation taking place October 9-17. The festival will be headlined by drive-in screenings of Mary Wharton’s JIMMY CARTER, ROCK & ROLL PRESIDENT on Opening Night, Laura Gabbert’s OTTOLENGHI AND THE CAKES OF VERSAILLES with the Centerpiece slot, and Julia Reichart and Steve Bognar’s 9-TO-5: THE STORY OF A MOVEMENT on Closing Night.
More than 170 American Indie and international narrative features, documentaries and short films representing 37 countries, will be showcased at the 35th Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival (FLIFF) scheduled for November 5 – 22, 2020.
Heartland Film announced the lineup of 76 independent feature films showcased in the 29th Heartland International Film Festival (HIFF29) running via hybrid model of drive-in and virtual events, from October 8 to 18.

Regina King’s highly anticipated directorial debut One Night in Miami will have its UK premiere at this year’s BFI London Film Festival on Sunday October 11th. The Amazon Original film, which was the first by a Black female director to screen at the Venice Film Festival, features an exciting cast fronted by Kingsley BenAdir, Eli Goree, Aldis Hodge and Leslie Odom Jr.
