  • THE SOCIAL DILEMNA and 2 Archival Films Added to Sundance Film Festival 2020 Lineup

    Three feature films – The Social Dilemma along with Born into Brothels and High Art from The Collection Films have been added to the 2020 Sundance Film Festival’s robust slate of independent films. Additionally the Festival announced that previously-announced Special Event, Love Fraud, will screen on Day One of the Festival. The Festival will take place in Park City, Salt Lake City and at Sundance Mountain Resort January 23 to February 2, 2020.

    Sony Pictures Classics will release “Charm City Kings,” a new film by Angel Manuel Soto, that is set to world premiere at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival. Following the Sundance premiere, Sony Pictures Classics will release the film in select theaters on April 10, 2020, followed by a wide release on April 17, 2020.

    TIFF revealed its Canada’s Top Ten list of features and short films of 2019. This year’s Top Ten list features three directorial debuts and four Indigenous filmmakers. The shorts and features lineups showcase works by 12 of Canada’s most talented female filmmakers. Johnson”). This searing documentary shadows a group of brave activists risking their lives to confront the ongoing anti-LGBTQ persecution in the repressive and closed Russian republic of Chechnya. With unfettered access and a commitment to protecting anonymity, this documentary exposes these underreported atrocities, while highlighting an extraordinary group of heroic people confronting crushing brutality.

    Sundance Film Festival announced the works selected across the Indie Episodic, Shorts and Special Events sections of the 2020 Festival. Of the projects announced, 48% were directed or created by one or more women, 33% were directed or created by one or more filmmaker of color, and 19% by one or more people who identify as LGBTQIA. 7 were supported by Sundance Institute in development, whether through direct granting or Labs.
