The 2019 Indie Memphis Film Festival which ran from October 30th to November 4th, 2019, announced this year’s award recipients with the Narrative Competition award going to DE LO MIO by New York-based filmmaker Diana Peralta; DE LO MIO is a drama about three siblings who reunite in the Dominican Republic to face their demons.
Opening Night Film Just Mercy, with Michael B. Jordan as social justice warrior Brian Stevenson and Jamie Foxx as one of the first wrongly-convicted death row inmates he fought for, won the Virginia Film Festival Audience Award for Best Narrative Feature. Earning the audience award for Best Documentary Feature was Sing You a Brand New Song, a story about how the power of love and music can transcend even tragedy.
Steed directed by Erdenebileg Ganbold won the award for Best Feature Film at the 18th San Diego International Film Festival. 15 films received awards from the festival at the Filmmaker Awards night including Breaking Their Silence, Women on the Frontline of the Poaching War directed by Kerry David win Best Documentary, and 100 Days to Live directed by Ravin Gandhi winning for Best World Premiere.
Returning for its 19th edition from December 4 to 8, the Whistler Film Festival (WFF) will showcase 86 fresh films, comprising of 43 features and 43 shorts from 15 countries.

Now in its 32nd year, the 2019 AFI European Union Film Showcase, taking place December 4 to 22 at the American Film Institute’s historic theatre in Silver Spring, MD, highlights 46 films representing all 28 EU member states. Films include award winners, regional box-office hits, debut works by up-and-coming talents and new works by leading auteurs, plus 11 of the top contenders for this year’s Academy Award® for Best International Feature Film and 10 U.S. and North American premieres.
Knives Out, the star-studded whodunit from director Rian Johnson and Come As You Are Richard Wong’s reimagining of the classic buddy road trip comedy tied to win the coveted Audience Award at the 28th Philadelphia Film Festival.
The NDR Film Prize of the 61st Lübeck Nordic Film Days (Nordische Filmtage Lübeck), endowed with € 12,500, went to an Icelandic film, “A White, White Day” (“Hvítur, hvítur dagur”), directed by Hlynur Pálmason, with lead actor Ingvar E. Sigurðsson in attendance to accept the award. The distributor Arsenal will release the film theatrically in German beginning February 13, 2020.
