The African Diaspora International Film Festival (ADIFF) – DC will hold its 13th Anniversary from August 9 to 11, 2019 at the George Washington University (GWU) Marvin Center (800 21st Street NW). The weekend will feature an exciting line up of 16 national and international fictions and documentaries set in The United States, Djibouti, Brazil, Barbados, DRC, Panama, France, Guadeloupe, Cuba and Morocco – including 12 US and DC premieres.
Welcome Back, Tora-san (tentative title), from legendary director Yoji Yamada, will open the 2019 Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF) on October 28. The film has been completed in time to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Japan’s most beloved comedy film series, Otoko wa Tsurai yo (It’s Tough Being a Man). The series holds a Guinness World Record for longest-running film series starring the same lead actor; and this marks both the 50th title as well as the first film to be released since 1995, following the untimely death of star Kiyoshi Atsumi.
The 15th edition of the Zurich Film Festival (ZFF) which runs September 26 through October 6, will shine a light on Colombian cinema. The program will highlight a new generation of filmmakers whose work reflects on the country’s recent history.

The 2019 British Urban Film Festival which takes place September 1 to 7, will open with Tosin Coker’s ‘Lara and the Beat’, a Nigerian romantic comedy drama about two sisters coming to terms with the legacy of their family’s media empire. British interest comes in the form of lead actress Seyi Shey who was born in Tottenham. The film also stars Wale Ojo (Meet the Adebanjo’s).
Academy Award®-nominated actor Edward James Olmos unveiled the program that will be featured at the 2019 Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival (LALIFF) which runs Wednesday, July 31 through Sunday, August 4 at the TCL Chinese Theatres. This year’s program includes 15 features, 17 shorts, five episodics, two special events and two Latinx podcasts live from the festival.

The Long Beach International Film Festival (LBIFF) will celebrate its eighth anniversary from July 31st through August 3rd on Long Island, and will screen an international slate of over 50 films, including feature-length narratives, documentaries, shorts and animated films that will compete for a series Festival Honors and Audience Awards.
The Wavescape Surf and Ocean Festival will feature a lineup of 19 films at the Durban International Film Festival (DIFF). Wavecape will also bring Slide Night, featuring talks by ocean thought leaders on a wide range of topics – including science, sustainability, adventure and activism – to its program of films to be screened at DIFF from July 21 to 26, 2019.
